After learning that Brock Turner, the attacker in the Stanford Rape Case, got off with a ridiculously light sentence, the internet went insane. But luckily the public wasn’t the only one who was outraged: California legislator Bill Dodd was mad enough to take a stand.
The assemblyman introduced a bill the ability of the judge to lessen the charges of a convicted rapist.
“Like many people across the nation, I was deeply disturbed by the sentence in the Brock Turner case. Our bill will help ensure that such lax sentencing doesn’t happen again,” he told Reuters.
The bill has yet to be approved, but we’re hopeful that the anger over Brock’s case will inspire legislators, as well as the governor, to push the bill through.
